I KNOW YOU, YET I DO NOT

I EMBRACE YOU, MY ARMS ARE EMPTY

YOUR PRESENCE SURROUNDS ME, I AM NOT WITH YOU

I BURN INSIDE, MY FIRE YOU HAVE NOT FELT

MESSAGES HAVE BEEN SENT,  MY LIPS REMAIN STILL

MY SOUL CALLS OUT YOUR NAME, YOU GIVE NO RESPONSE

SALACIOUS SHOWERS RAIN OVER ME, YOUR WATERS DO NOT FLOW

I KNOW YOU, I KNOW YOU, TIME AWAITS NO ONE

MY HEART DOTH PAIN, YOU TEND NOT THE WOUND

I KNOW YOU, MORE THAN A LIFETIME IT SEEMS

MY EMOTIONS CALL OUT FROM STRAIN, BUT THERE IS SILENCE, SILENCE, SILENCE

Honey Mae abruptly comes to a stop, places one hand on her hip with the other holding her purse, swerves her body around with all the grace and elegance of a  beautiful ballerina and directs her gaze at Junie B .  With her head slightly tilted to one side and one eyebrow raised she parts her sweet rose painted lips with words for Junie B. You ain’t never gonna sip from this honey drip fool and besides, your trifl’en ass ain’t got nothing for me. What you need to do is go get a job and get off of that corner.  You ain’t got the money to be tasting this here honey. And with that said, Honey Mae cocks her head in the air, turns in the other direction to continue on her way without missing a beat.

Dukie yells out to her as she strolls down the avenue,  bye Miss Honey Mae and begins to chuckle.. Damn, brother she sure put it on you man, damn. Junie B feeling his manhood and ego a little bit damaged looks at Dukie, collects himself then yells back at Honey Mae, why you want to go and treat a brother like that?—- I wasn’t interested in your old ugly stank behind anyway. I was just trying to make a sister feel good. Ought to be thankful that a brother even give you the time of day.

Junie B then looks at Dukie, damn she one fine ass sister and what she talk’in about get a job? Junie B ain’t about to hold down some nine to five working for whitey only to get some pennies. You cramp’in my style with that Gomer Pyle s–t man..

Dukie then glances at Junie B with a little grin and with a shake of his head says, Man I gotta get to stepp’in brother, I’ll catch you later. I told my girl that I would pick her up some milk and eggs from the corner grocery store man. And as he begins to turn and walk away the words ring out through the air once again, hey brother, break me off a lil’ someth’in?

Does this have a familiar ring to it?

Most likely it probably resonates with the majority of us because we all have known a Mookie, a Dukie and of course a Junie B… They may have been a brother, an uncle, nephew, cousin, friend and heck, even a father. They were just a few of those characters in our neighborhood that we have come to love and know so well. Embraced by some and vilified by others but nonetheless they were and are a part of Black America back in the day. They remind us of a beautiful time of retrospect and rhetorical jive. A time when we were a people who were coming into relevance, recognition, Black pride and Black Power.. These characters were just a few during a period of racial strife and inequality when we were empowered and inspired by the Black Power movement. A period when we as Black people shared a common respect and appreciation for one another which somehow has been eviscerated over the generations. A time when we lifted each other up as opposed to tearing each  other down.

This ring however has become much too familiar and lends itself to some of the negative stigma that continues to envelope and handicap our people today.. Almost every one of us can identify with it but today it has lost it’s luster.

Today we still have the Mookies, The Dukie’s and the Junie B’s. The only difference is that these brothers today don’t have any direction, honor, or self-respect whatsoever. Today these brothers are dropping out of school, joining street gangs, dis-respecting our woman and elders as well as murdering each other on the streets of urban America. We don’t respect each other and consequently, no one respects us.

Just as we can identify with this, the rest of America and the world sees it also. Simply put, this scenario, these images are what is played out to the millions of people every single day and we have got to change it. We must take an honest look at ourselves, get back to the basics and try to reclaim that sense of urgency, pride and empowerment. We are so much better than what we see and what we are producing. We are the trend setters of the world and if you don’t believe this just listen and look at other folk around you.  Who are they talking like? Who are they dressing like? Who are they dancing like?  Who are they trying to look like? Who do you think they get their swag from?  Just take a moment to look and listen. The fist bumps, the hey bro and hug when they greet each other, the walk and the vernacular just to name a few.

Yes, they will embrace everything that we are except us. So why is it that we do not embrace and love who we are and recognize the powerful and undeniable influence we possess. We have been duped into disliking ourselves and one another by our counterparts while they attempt to take ownership of  everything that we have introduced from our culture. I remember when we were ridiculed and mocked by them for the way we talked, the way we dressed, the way we danced, the high fives and the manner in which we greeted one another. Yet today I see how much we are copied and also sadly to point where they refer to one another with the N-word. It would not surprise me if they eventually laid claimed to it since we have desensitized it’s true meaning and made it trendy.

We need to invoke a powerful and positive trend towards being the masters of our destiny as individuals and a people. This will evoke a rejuvenated people of pride and dignity who will bring forth a more admirable and more ambitious generations of Mookie’s, Dukie”s and Junie B’s that the world will have to reckon with.

We don’t need to be like Junie B always asking  to be broke off a lil’ someth’in. Some of us are looking for the white man to break off a lil’ something like (reparations). I say we need to break off a lil’ education, break off a lil’ knowledge, break off a lil’ self-love, break off a lil’ self-respect, break off a lil’ self-awareness, break off a lil’ empowerment, break off a lil’ courage and determination.

And once we have done this, then my brother’s and sister’s let us break off a lil’ someth’in.

How about we break off a lil’ bit of America!!!

Now that’s what I’m talk’in about!!!!

A Time For Love

In today’s day and age we have as the human race undoubtedly become overwhelmingly consumed  with matters of no consequence.  We exhaust an endless river of surging energy into areas that yield fleeting gratification. It bears absolutely no significant amount of tangible fruit for which we can feel the utmost exuberance for. We have become incredibly shallow and pitifully absorbed in self-indulgence and promotion.  Depravity is our closest ally and disdain towards another has become the song of deep-seated vitriol.

A mist of separation and individualism envelopes and hovers over our consciousness while skepticism blankets across the horizon of our nature. Who are we and what has become of the empathy of heart. The course we navigate with recklessness weaves in and out through the vestibules of cynicism, prejudices and alienation which broaden the valley between us. The divide has become ever increasingly wider while a few hastily gather to shout and protest with fervor of want and desperate need on deaf ears of power and control. Our total disregard for the sanctity and value of this planet and all that  inhabits it invokes an indelible image of perilous consequence.

The regions are rife with violence, murder, genocide, displacement of human life , natural disasters, global warming, failing economies, acts of cruel and unusual torture, homelessness and hunger just to name a few and yet we conduct business as usual. This is as if to suggest that all is well and right with the world on center stage as the show plays out to the whimsically and thoughtlessness of its audience. Ah, the puppeteers will forever continue to produce this gala of entertainment for the abundance of puppets will almost certainly guarantee a long running event. The producers and directors will assure us of  this not only because of their rapacious and nefarious nature but also due to their utter lack of principles and total disregard for morality and human life.

We have time for deception of heart. We have time for criticism of genuine effort. We have time for vociferation of displeasure, disdain and disgust. We have time for self-indulgence at the expense of others. We have time to vituperate towards presumed loved ones. We have time to bathe in the waters of self-righteousness and scent ourselves in the perfume of decency. We find assurance in temporary moments of exultation while our deviousness scratches away at the manufactured fabric of virtue and ideologies.  Hypocrisy leads to ignominy of our society as we plunge deeper into denial . No matters of urgency strike purpose to those who are impervious of a critically pernicious climate. The vicissitudes are never-ending and compels one to seek that place of balance..

Here I am all and all here is me.

My spirit beckons for a time of solace. My heart yearns for a time of tenderness, compassion and empathy. My soul cries out for a time of reconciliation. My emotions seek a time of understanding…A time for love.

My emptiness within harkens to the song bird to sing a melody of comfort. My darkness reaches for the angel of mercy to shed light and bring comfort to ones place of unrest.  My cries are ushered forward at the Gods of creation for uplifting of spirit and to bestow a calmness over my troubled waters. A time for love.

My heart aches and begs for the deliverance of joy. My beaten body is in need of a gentle touch of hands. A massage of soothing bliss to dissipate the stress of loins and confusion of mind. A chariot of goodness to carry me away into the night from the wailing of pain and disappointment.  A time for love.

My desires remain silent in need of fulfillment. My expectations float on clouds of uncertainty and hesitance. My inclinations battle complexities of principles which questions morality..  My conscious is weighted down with indecision. A time for love….
The causes of ED can where buy viagra be either cardio vascular in nature like high BP/cholesterol, diabetes, obesity, and penile deformities. No doubt sildenafil tablet viagra they learned of its’ benefits even way back then. But before consuming the cialis generic overnight drug, carry out a clinical visit to conform the suitable drug dosage as this is available in various tasty flavors. Males in the old age usually suffer from diseases like kidney disease, overweight, liver disease, HIV, viagra prescription AIDs, testicular injury, are likely to suffer from reduced testosterone.
I would strike down all melancholy before me with a vengeance of unyielding force and usher forth euphoric intoxication. But my slumber beckons for still and silence whilst I lay beneath blanketed softness. My mind is submerged in kaleidoscope of dreams, my escape cloaks me in shelter but only for a night.  I will lay not in want for a while as reality awaits rise of sun.

A star covered sky with illuminated moon upon the universe will  have passed.  And as darkness of night doth fade, morning is caressed by day. Then shall my essence exceedingly once again crave,   A time for love……

Lost Minds and Silent Voices

Have you ever stopped to just take a moment and ask yourself, what exactly is the reason for my presence here on this earth? Who am I, why was I even born and where in the heck am I going? Maybe you have and were fortunate enough to have the proper guidance, discipline and nurturing that was needed to insure your transition into life would not be a difficult one. Maybe you are one of those who have never had these thoughts and were always confident of yourself and where you wanted to go in life. You indeed are the exception. However, there are those of us who aren’t as fortunate to have guidance or certainty of who they are, where they fit in or what it is that they are supposed to do. They are the lost minds and the silent voices.

Man I can remember those periods of bewilderment and being dumbfounded as though they were yesterday. The memories are so vivid in my mind and most times I find myself reflecting on my journey in life which has traversed many different landscapes and experiences. For me this had been a very familiar place where I would reside for a significant period of time.
You see, my life was void of any direction and I never quite understood exactly what the requirements as well as what the demands of life were… More often than not I would find myself consumed in fantasy or just trying to figure out whom I was and what I was supposed to be doing with my life. I found myself searching for my identity through television or by observing those around me to see just where I fit in. I wasn’t a popular kid and most times I would experience a great deal of rejection from my peers and other folk. My parents were good providers but were truly lacking in instructive guidance. That in itself is another topic for another time. So I found myself somewhat alienated and constantly asking myself questions that I had no answers to.
Life itself does not provide us with a manual of descriptive guidelines for navigation and even if it did a lot of us would have been very reluctant to follow it. I believe that most of us who lack any real sense of direction are prone to cast caution to the wind and venture off on our own because we feel as though no one knows what is in our best interest except us. Most times the reckless manner in which we behave and the choices we make carry considerable non-welcomed ramifications for our actions.

The questions are very relevant to ask especially if your life has been one which has experienced countless periods of hurt, disappointment, rejection, betrayal, injustice, and inequality. How does one begin to deal with such adversity and turmoil and who lends an ear to the voices of despair and hopelessness? Without someone trustworthy to offer guidance we are most likely to slip through the cracks, never to be noticed or relevant. Unfortunately this is the scenario that is seen throughout most of urban America. There is a large segment of us who gaze around and see nothing but poverty and are overwhelmed by the challenges we are confronted with on a daily basis. The environment in which we reside has very little to offer in terms of encouragement for a better life and just about everything around us screams out road block and no way out. Then we ask ourselves, man why did I have to come into this world and why did I have to be born into this. Yeah, I know, we play the cards that we have been dealt but this is something that has to be taught or in my case, learned through experience. Besides most kids have no clue whatsoever what that aphorism (adage) means.

For the most part there are so many of us that are at a tremendous disadvantage who come from single parent and dysfunctional homes with siblings who aren’t faring too much better. The family is either poor or financially strapped and void of anything that is nurturing and cultivating. We receive very little in the way of positive instruction because of the mere fact that most of us today have parents who’ve never had this instilled in them or who are to young themselves to have experienced life.. Based on that fact alone, how could they possibly offer guidance and positive direction/influence to the children?
The theme gets replayed over and over again and no one seems to recognize its repetitiveness. There are a staggering number of us who have felt either not loved, not wanted by our parents or anyone else and this just compounds those feelings of disconnect and alienation. The situation usually translates into feelings and thoughts of no-one cares about me so why should I care anything about my life. This by the way is the prelude to making choices that are extremely detrimental to us and sometimes to innocent people around us.
No one seems to take notice of the staggering number of youths that have absolutely no sense of direction, personal insight or personal development and growth. They have become orphans of the streets, members of gangs, swallowed up in drug addiction or a life of criminal activity that either results in homelessness, incarceration or death. They are the ones who have been abandoned and left to fend for themselves just like those before them. The emotions that are stirring inside beg for release, reconciliation, and understanding but our voices remain silent. We feel the absence of ear and concern so we act out these feelings of abandonment and neglect by other methods because we are yearning for attention and help. Life has taught us to remain silent, to acquiesce, and to capitulate. No-one really cares.
Not exactly true but it’s a legitimate feeling and also an excuse for unacceptable behavior.

The art of teaching and instruction has fallen by the wayside and appears to have been trampled into oblivion. The pride and self dignity that was once embraced and championed among our people has given way to a shameless and disconnected population of folks who cry victimization and self-pity. We have become so misguided and consumed with self promotion of image and indulgence that we have lost sight of who we really are and what our real purpose in life is. What was once the catalyst of the family, a community and its success has become noticeably absent and for some inexplicable reason we are lacking real sense of urgency to turn it around.

If you are cialis viagra australia suffering from any severe penile diseases then those diseases will never-ever come back to you. It is because generic cialis http://amerikabulteni.com/2013/08/04/video-siz-orda-degilken-ormanda-neler-oluyor-bir-yalniz-agacin-siradisi-oykusu/ cGMP enzyme present in the blood does not reach to the penis. What the tablets offers an ED affected person is given doses of hormone through applications, canada pharmacy tadalafil injections or medications. These other tactics are buy viagra without rx click here to find out more inclusive of- meditation, stretching, breathing exercises, warm up, rest and drinking a plenty of water. We are not exposed to the multitude of possibilities in life because from day one we have been conditioned to believe that certain achievements or realities are beyond the realm of possibility for us. We are taught not to waste our time with silly notions regarding aspirations of success because they are not attainable and the educational process does not work. We have been served a constant and steady diet of you can’t make it to the point where we have come to eat, sleep, and breathe this poisonous rhetoric. The constant consumption of negativity only helps to perpetuate the non truth. I mean if a person is taking garbage in it is only natural that garbage will come out.

I can relate to this because I have lived it. I remember countless times that I was told that I would never amount to anything. Once a junkie, always a junkie. People have no conception whatsoever how the hurtful and offensive remarks they make impact people. I was almost at the point where I felt as though there was no way out for me and I was destined to be a hopeless case. Just another brother who slipped through the cracks and most people would have expected that and would have never missed my presence. It has been said over and over again that God helps those who help themselves. I believe this to be true but how do we get people to realize they need help and secondly, how do we get them to accept that help. Here in lies the greatest of all challenges.

Unfortunately more often than not we can’t do anything about their situations. They are the ones that need to acknowledge how dire their situation really is and that it requires attention or they are doomed for a life of disappointment and failure. So I’m guessing that we need to reach these folks before they ever transition to that stage in life. I believe wholeheartedly that I was not an exception but that I made the exception. I was able to discover with the help of others my identity and what I wanted to do. The exception was reaching out for help, letting my voice be heard and being willing to accept assistance with turning my life around. We desperately need to get people to want to discover themselves and all of that which is good and great inside of them.
To each one, teach one. The process has to start somewhere otherwise we will be sure to keep repeating this over and over again and as we do there will be more and more lost minds and silent voices.

Set the standard and become the positive example that will empower those around us and just maybe we can begin to turn this around…..
Be a voice, be a champion, and help to salvage a mind and a life….

Are You A Black Man

The above title is a question that was directed towards me one day so I decided to share its premise with you.

Such device is generally safe and effective where a cylinder order levitra click here for more info is placed over the penis and vacuum is created inside the cylinder. The problem may also be associated with lack viagra online sales of trust may account a factor to cause sexual mayhem in men. If you are suffering from buy cheap cialis unica-web.com ED then you can hold depression as the chief culprit of your ED woes * No longer feeling the desire for sex* No longer finding pleasure in having sex* Stress is acting as trigger point for ED* Along with ED you also experience strong anxiety as well as stress* You feel very calm and unique. You simply have to https://www.unica-web.com/archive/2002/2002.html buy cheap levitra and you are done! The option to levitra has given powers in the hands of men.

So I’m on one of the social networks one day engaged in a conversation with another brother who felt very strongly that Black folks should get reparations. Initially the topic of conversation was in reference to the 507 Billion Dollars that Black folks pump into the economy annually but somehow got steered towards reparations. This is a topic that has been debated for some time and was also presented before congress in 1989.

This particular brothers reasoning for wanting reparations was for the simple fact that he felt  that Black folks of today should receive compensation for the years of free labor America had siphoned off the backs of slaves to build this country.  Now don’t get me wrong. I feel America owes an insurmountable debt to our people for the atrocities our ancestors have experience from the oppressive and murderous hands of white slave owners too. However, I definitely do not understand how putting large sums of cash in the hands of people is going to rectify the issue. The amount he thought would be appropriate was about one million dollars to be distributed to Black families. Somehow this would give us Black folks a share in the wealth and I guess sort of balance things out. So I asked him if he was advocating that every Black person or household be given the sum of one million dollars to level the playing field so to speak. Personally, I felt that it would be useless for the simple fact that the money would be squandered and would go right back into the hands of the ones who provided it. His response was as follows ( I have never, nor the majority had a million. It’s a chance and a mercy. We deserve it and would at a minimum accept that as repentance for the harm caused by slavery in the hope that we could move on with some sense of normalcy ). He further went on to say that ( I am saying that this could be a viable option to finding a solution that could stop the wholesale murder of our people. If you choose to view it as a share of the wealth I can accept that. I believe that it is a small portion of what is due ).

I was amazed and just a little perplexed at this brothers reasoning. I mean he couldn’t really be serious, or could he?
I responded to the brother as follows (With all due respect brother, that is ridiculous. The money will do absolutely nothing. It will never be enough !!)  Evidently I must have really pissed the brother off because he started to become real indignant and began to call into question my Blackness. Man, I gotta say that it’s just like some qwerty board revolutionary to become insulting and disrespectful when you don’t agree with their position.

What in the world are the majority of Black folks going to do with one million dollars besides, piss it away. Most don’t have the slightest clue as to how to manage the little that they do have and besides once uncle Sam takes his share you’ll have a lot less than that. They know absolutely nothing about investments or cash management. Hell, most can’t even manage their lives. Now I don’t say this to be insulting, I’m just speaking the truth. If any person lacks the ability to manage their household, they most definitely aren’t ready for prime time..

I was asked, are you a Black man and what suggestions did I have. Well, I simply responded to the brother that I am the kind of Black man who is not begging the white man for some money. Gimme, Gimme, Gimme.. Oops, he didn’t take that response to well at all. The next thing I knew, the brother had blocked and un-followed me.  Now, these are the type of brothers who are continuously claiming that we need to come together and stop fighting with one another but are quick to drop an insult on you when you disagree with them. The type of brothers that are always saying how down they are for the cause but are the first ones to haul ass and leaving you hanging. You know the type I’m referring to. Black when it’s right and out of sight when it’s time to fight.. You can spot them anywhere, because they’re always talking about how the white man is holding them down. The white man has his foot on their throat and they can’t breathe. So forth and so on…

Well damn brother, you need to get a little bit of a fight in you and tell him to raise the heck up and if he doesn’t, remove that foot and get him up off of you. But no, that’s a little bit to difficult for you because it requires some heart and hard work. It  is much easier for you to just complain about it rather than do something about it. But you are all ready to pump your chest out to lead the charge and be the cheer leader for reparations as long as no one challenges you. Apparently when you are challenged to a mature, intelligent and constructive conversation you tend to get unnerved and take your pom poms and go home. Now, with all that said I still will not question his Blackness but I will call into question his heart as well as his agenda.

With all due respect, ( can I say that after such a brutal but truthful lashing) oh well, this Black man will not require your services at all because I am not that kind of Black man.  You see, I am the kind of Black man who has come from the inner city roach and mice infested projects, dropped out of high school and has experienced the perilous journey of life through drug addiction, self-doubt and much self-inflicted pain. The Black man who decided to choose life over death one night while contemplating suicide. The Black man who sought help from others because  I wanted so desperately to turn a life spiraling out of control around. The kind of Black man who rose up,  fell and then rose again. You see, I know what it is like to do without and having to stretch that coin in order to make ends meet. I am extremely familiar with sacrifice and having to work with a steadfast determination to be successful. Yes, I am the kind of Black man who has payed his dues, who has made mistakes in his life but holds no one else accountable for them but myself. I am the kind of Black man who today has his own company which was built from the ground up. Yes and didn’t beg the white man for a damn thing.  Yes I am the kind of Black man who is self-educated and a proud father and husband who has unparalleled love and devotion. The road has not been an easy one but it has been a road nevertheless that was manageable and success realized through prayer, determination, dedication, discipline and diligence. I committed myself to the process and continued to press on and press through.

I am the kind of Black man whose African lineage can be traced back five generations to the proud Akan people of Ghana and the Temne people of Sierra Leone. Yes, I am a direct descendant of Africans who were sold into Slavery in the 1800’s who endured a life of painful subjugation and upon gaining their freedom went on to build meaningful and successful lives. I can say with enormous admiration and humility that I am the kind of Black man whose ancestors were a proud African people who endured a hardship that I would never know during a period of extreme racial divide and violence  but were able to construct a  respectable legacy from hard work, education and devotion to family in the process.

Part of this legacy can be found in the book “African-Americans of Lower Richland County”.   So as a 5th generation African-American and a direct descendant of Slaves who rose up and triumphed over the most extreme adversarial period, I am the kind of Black man who has risen up and was also triumphant over adversity as well, but my hardships will never parallel theirs.

In closing I want to emphasize how we should refrain from criticism of one another and attempt to be more understanding and respectful. We need to practice the reservation of judgement especially when we are not in the least familiar with the other person or their life. We can of course express our sentiments about the comments made but should definitely refrain from personal attacks.  Some of you who read this may or may not agree which is understandable, but at least you have some food for thought… Peace and Blessings

Power of the Vote

The Voter registration drive during the 1960’s  which campaigned for millions of African-Americans right to vote was a costly effort by so many people on both sides of the color divide. Hundreds of folks  had unselfishly  volunteered and sacrificed their time away from family and friends for this righteous cause, with some even paying with their lives to make this a reality for millions of the so-called Negro ( Black Race). It was during another time in this country’s violent history where the beast of racism would again rear its ugly face and the vile stench of hatred for a people of color and their supporters permeated the air. This folks was the America that I grew up in and came to know in my childhood. Your America is one of expected entitlements and immediate gratification coupled with selfishness and irresponsibility.

It has always been my contention that if you are not a part of the solution then you are pretty much part of the problem. Today there is one problem that we as the dark-skinned people in the United States of America are confronted with every election cycle. The one constant issue that malign us in our desire and efforts to make and sustain progress is our lack of participation in the election process across this great land.

For some inexplicable reason it has somehow become a misconstrued notion that our absence during this process is striking a blow at the system that we feel fails us. Choosing not to vote is supposedly designed to inflict harm on those that are thought not to have our best interest at heart or have abandoned us. The inclination to not participate and exercise this right is meant to send a message of disapproval and discontent to those elected officials whom we have entrusted with the task of representation on our behalf.  There are even some folk who feel that the process is just a waste of time and some who elect not to participate at all completely out of spite. It reminds me of the kid that didn’t get what he or she had expected, so they decide not to vote in the preceding election,  a sort of  ( I’ll show you ) mentality. We had this little saying in reference to people who behaved in this manner when I was a child, which is (you cut your nose off to spite your face). Basically what this means is that, the only person that you are hurting, is yourself because it is your face that is affected by this immature, spiteful and selfish behavior. I get this wholeheartedly and understand the exasperation as well as the agitation towards those who have failed to deliver on the goodies.  But come on, I mean we really should take the time  to second think this completely.

Folks need to understand that the main benefactors of this misdirected and irresponsible action are the individuals who don’t want us in the voting booth to begin with and are more than elated at our dumb and immature gesture. They sit back and salivate at the mere thought of us not voting because we’re talking about power here brothers and sisters. POWER is what we give to them when we do not vote and then we cry about not having anyone doing anything for us or representing us. How in the world can we expect change if we aren’t ready to see the process through. How on earth can we expect the process to deliver on anything if we abandon the process?  Some of us may not live to witness the change  but, should that be the determining factor? NO! We fight the fight and continue that fight for as long as we are on this planet. The fight is never over and all problems and issues are never fully resolved immediately. However, we never sway from the task at hand and we continue to forge ahead and  press through the disappointments because that is exactly what your adversary does. They understand completely that it is an ongoing process and that the state of this country as well as their future and their children’s will be determined by those whom they elect into office with their vote. Why do you think they put on such an extravagant gala and get all fired up when the elections come along. They know fully well what is at stake here and they have every intention of making sure their agendas are pushed forth and that the candidates get their full support. They recognize the urgency as well as the necessity and they throw themselves all in with a determination and commitment that rivals a hip hop concert.

Why would people who are privy to the same as another fail to take advantage of the one powerful tool available to them? The one component that they have which will undoubtedly ensure that their voice is heard, they fail to exercise. This makes absolutely no sense at all.                                                                                                                                              There are millions of people all over the globe who need to have their voices heard and are dying for that right. Yet, here in America this enormous privilege and right is far to often taken for granted or cast to the side. Why has it become so difficult for some of us to understand and accept the premise that anything worth building requires time to materialize. We have come to expect immediate results and when those expectations don’t come to fruition we tend

to toss in the towel, mope and groan about the lack of concern that exists for us. We fail to comprehend that if we are not involved in the process, that we can’t ever expect the process to work for us. I mean, where is the logic in that thinking?  My other question would be, just what exactly is it that we are looking for?

Wait a minute, do you not see that there is a pattern here that is repeated year in and year out. A pattern that any worthy adversary can see and take absolute advantage of.

We are known by our counterparts for continuously throwing up our hands and surrender. Think about it, you are doing your enemies bidding for them. They have come to know that at the mere presence of turmoil or dissatisfaction that we will refuse to fight. We lack the patience and resolve that our predecessors did. They understood all to well the importance of the vote and the power  it yielded. They had endured over  hundreds of years the pain and immeasurable agony of suffrage and realized that the long-awaited opportunity to vote was not to be dismissed. This mighty sword of the democratic process that wielded great power was finally bestowed upon them and they would for the sake of their children continue to endure the hardship which exercising this right and privilege be-felled them by their oppressors.

What we fail to realize today is the amount of power we have with our vote. The oppressors knew very well what the power of the vote meant during that period. They knew it then and they most definitely still know it today. Just take a moment to consider this. Why do you think they made such an extreme effort to discourage  us from voting with methods of intimidation, violence and murder in the past?  In addition, why would this seemingly meaningless tool of the democratic process be denied from us for hundreds of years. Ask yourself why is there a concerted effort by the Republican party today to suppress the voting rights of African-Americans and young adults with Gerry meandering (redrawing district lines), new registration policies, picture or state issued I.D, requirements. The purpose is intended to discourage us so that we will squander the one opportunity that we have to exercise power. They understand all to well what a massive voter turnout of the African-American people and other Democrats, Moderates and Progressives will do. They witnessed that when we elected the first African-American President in Barrack H. Obama. A truly amazing historical accomplishment that no one ever expected to happen in this millennium if ever. But it did happen people and it happened with the power of the vote. That’s power baby, real authentic genuine raw power that sends a frightening chill through their conscious. So much so that they have reverted to implementing new restrictive and suppressive voting legislation. The burning crosses, the hangings, the torture and the murders are no longer acceptable methods of intimidation.

We should never surrender the right to vote and never fail to exercise that right to vote. There have been too many people who have sacrificed far too much for us to have this right, and for us not to use it would be an utter and shameful disgrace to the legacy of their work as well as the sacrifices and hardships they endured. We should honor them with an unyielding commitment dedicated to their vision of liberty, justice and the democratic process. Surely they understood how dangerous of a task it was to register folks to vote in such a heated climate of vicious racism.  They refused to submit to the threats and intimidation of a vile and hateful opposition, for they realized the urgent need for African-Americans to have a voice.

There will always be corruption, racism, discrimination and prejudices to contend with but,  if we choose not to fight, we will allow these destructive forces  to become more anchored within our society and increasingly more difficult to remove.  If we surrender this right, we have no one to blame but ourselves for our dreadful situation.

Below you will see a link that lists Presidents Obama’s accomplishments over his first six years of office. I think you will be impressed and maybe a little surprised.  He continues to do his part and it is incumbent upon us to do our part. This is the power of the vote. No Vote equates to No Voice equates to No Power!!
